Our business units - Coal, Platinum, Base Metals, Ferrous Metals, and Industrial Minerals - run programmes and schemes tailored to meet their unique requirements.

As part of our initiative to support and encourage tertiary education, we offer work experience opportunities to our bursars and to other selected undergraduates whose studies are directly relevant to our business through our Student Technical Experience Programme.

Southern African

South Africa
Anglo American plc Open Scholarships
Closing date for applications: 30 September.
Bursary Value: Full tuition, residence, R8,000 per annum cash allowance, computer purchase allowance in third year of study; R8,000, return airfare to London (or equivalent) no contractual employment obligation.
Nature of Bursary: One award per annum for any undergraduate degree at any South African University. Possibility of funding for postgraduate studies not exceeding total funding for more than six (6) years.
Entrance Requirements: Only candidates currently completing their matric year are eligible to apply. Candidates should obtain at least four A -symbols in their matric mid-year examinations. Candidates should have achieved in some of the following areas: leadership, sport, cultural activities and community.
Objective of Bursary: To reward excellence. Selection is based purely on merit. The intention is to reward an outstanding candidate who is likely to achieve in his / her chosen career based on their overall achievements to date.
Interviews: Preliminary interviews: October/November. Final interviews: January; Post Matric.
Anglo American plc Commemoration Scholarship
Closing date for applications: 30 September
Criteria: Solely for candidates whose parent/legal guardian is/has been employed at the Anglo American's Johannesburg office for a minimum period of five years.
Bursary Value: Full tuition, residence, R6,500 per annum cash allowance, computer purchase allowance equal to R10,000 in third year of study.
Nature of Bursary: One award per annum for any undergraduate degree at a South African University. Possible funding for postgraduate studies not exceeding total funding for more than six years. No contractual employment obligation.
Candidates must meet the minimum academic entrance requirements for their chosen course/university.
Interviews: Preliminary interviews: October/November. Final interviews: January; Post Matric.

Scholarships in Anglo Base Metals in Northern Cape
Anglo Base Metals (University Only) Vocational Bursaries for Northern Cape Operations: For candidates interested in pursuing a career in the Base Metal Mining Industry located in the Northern Cape region in one of the following disciplines: Geology, Engineering, Mining, Metallurgical, Chemical, Electrical (heavy current only), Mechanical. Preference will be given to candidates residing in the Northern Cape region and surrounding areas.
Academic Requirements: University exemption and minimum C-symbols for Mathematics and Science at the higher grade.
Bursary Value/Conditions: Full tuition, residence, annual cash allowance of R6,500, computer purchase allowance equal to R10,000 in third year of study, annual vacation employment of approximately eight weeks. Bursary carries a four year employment contractual obligation.
